Acupuncture: Current state of the Art
Acupuncture is an ancient healing art that dates back several thousand years. Though it has been around for awhile in the United States, it is still shrouded in mystery in our society's consciousness. People tend to be afraid of things they don't understand. And the average American doesn't understand much about meridians and cupping and moxa! Thankfully, and in a way that promises to benefit millions of Americans beyond what they've ever thought possible, things are changing!
In the last 20 years acupuncture has been embraced by western medical science. This is because of irrefutable, high quality clinical trials demonstrating its efficacy in the treatment of a wide variety of human ailments. Within programs ranging from cancer treatment to wellness care across the country, clinical acupuncture is earning a prominent place.
Conditions that benefit most from Acupuncture
Medical studies have proven that acupuncture can be profoundly beneficial for patients with back pain, migraine headaches, and sciatica. What's more, acupuncture has helped many thousands of Americans obtain lasting relief from
- insomnia,
- digestive disorders,
- chronic sinus infections,
- bronchitis,
- polycystic ovaries,
- anxiety attacks,
- fibromyalgia,
- Bell's palsy,
- carpal tunnel syndrome…
…and a wide variety of other conditions. While nothing cures the common cold, consistently applied principles of traditional oriental medicine can help you prevent succumbing to most common cold viruses altogether! And isn't this how wellness care is supposed to be?
As well as treating a variety of internal disorders and pain-related conditions, acupuncture is extremely effective as an adjunct treatment for infertility. We are proud to say that numerous patients who have been treated by our acupuncturist at The Center for Spine Pain for infertility have delivered healthy babies! Sara's knowledge of Western medicine comes in handy as she is able to interpret blood work and ultrasound results to formulate an effective treatment protocol.
Sara Pavone, Dipl. O.M.
If you have tried acupuncture from a chiropractor or medical doctor before, perhaps you have not yet tried real acupuncture. This discipline requires mastery of a very specialized body of knowledge, and most skilled practitioners possess a 4 year master’s degree or higher.

Your First Visit
On your first visit Sara Pavone, Dipl. Ac., our licensed acupuncturist, will obtain a history of your condition and perform a traditional oriental medical examination, including a detailed examination of the tongue (that's right, your tongue!) and pulses (yes, you have many pulses) at the wrist. A diagnosis will be established according to Traditional Oriental Medical principles that will probably sound way different than anything you've ever heard before. But here's the exciting part that makes our clinic special: Sara has a tremendous wealth of clinical experience in both eastern and western medicine. She will help you understand, in plain English, what is wrong with your body and what acupuncture can do to help. She will take all the mystery out of the process, and give you the understanding, confidence and trust you need to begin this ancient form of medicine you may have never tried before. We specialize in bringing the benefits of acupuncture to people who can benefit most but who might be anxious about trying something "new!"
If you have received acupuncture previously, you'll appreciate the skill and precision with which Sara practices the art of Traditional Oriental Medicine. In your very first session of acupuncture you'll discover how powerful this ancient form of healing is in the hands of a truly skilled practitioner.

Our Unique Approach
One highlight that makes our clinical approach unique at The Center for Spine Pain is that we take the mystery out of Traditional Oriental Medicine. We bridge the gap; we speak in plain, understandable English without jargon. Why? For most westerners, there is still a"learning curve" with respect to acupuncture. Our passion is to serve you! So we come alongside you and communicate clearly. Our down-to-earth approach makes your plan for improved health through acupuncture easy and understandable.
At The Center for Spine Pain you have the additional benefit of fully integrated acupuncture treatment. Though your sessions with Sara may not require concurrent massage, chiropractic, or rehabilitation, your care is never provided in a vacuum. Our provider team routinely engages in patient-specific discussions regarding the best therapeutic approaches for the greatest advantage to our patients. As a result, for example, our acupuncturist is able to translate findings from x-rays or an MRI into a better understanding of your condition. Please understand that this is not typically a part of acupuncture training. But it IS part of our high-level, integrated approach at The Center for Spine Pain. It’s a higher level of service, and a consistently world-class level of care our patients appreciate!
